‘Hard work pays,’ so they say. The KCPE class of 2015 proved its academic potential when it shattered the school record set in 2013 (341.42), romping home with a mean score of 352.36 up from 336.04 in 2014, the highest since the inception of the school. All the 5 subjects registered an improvement with social studies/CRE coming tops in the Keiyo South sub-county with a mean score of 74.50 and English second with 75.86.

To celebrate this achievement, the evening of 19th January 2016 saw the Fluorspar family excitedly converge for a Thanks/Prize Giving ceremony like no other. The former pupils’ joy knew no bounds when they jubilantly received the MD Kenya Fluorspar Company, Mr. Nico Spangenberg, with a chant and a group hugs. It is in the quote ‘Enthusiasm is the Engine of success……..’ by Ralf Waldo that we attribute our success to him being a very enthusiastic personality in matters academic in conjunction with Kenya Fluorspar Management team, the school Board of Management, Parents Teachers Association and school staff.

In his speech, he congratulated the 2015 KCPE class and appreciated all who played a role in realization of the achievement not forgetting to remind them to go forth and pursue their education with zeal and confidence.

Each of them walked away with a prize with the subject teachers receiving a surprise cash token and certificate of commendation.

To celebrate with the class were Board of Management and Parents teachers Association members, school staff and some pupils. To crown the day, everyone was treated to a scrumptious dinner after spiritual nourishment, entertainment and speeches from other guests.

Kudos class of 2015! You made us all proud with your success and determination.

The 2014 Prayer Day, a revered annual event, dawned on the bright morning of 24th October, 2014.The Guest of Honour was none other than Mr. Nicolas Ndege, the Deputy Principal of Alliance High school ,a renowned National school in Kenya flanked by Mr. Stephen Muange, the Chaplain of the same school. Readily available to usher them into our school were the School Scouts who mounted a guard of honour.

A quick visit of the school facility Library, ICT lab, classrooms, dormitories & Taekwondo hall where they were treated to a short demonstration gave the guests a feel of Fluorspar School, our home away from home. They commended the standard of the facilities and the stride the institution has made in embracing technology.

The` techno wizards’ as the candidates refer to themselves-thanks to e-learning in our school, sat attentively to catch every moment when the ceremony finally began.

In attendance were members of the management led by Mr. Nico Spangenberg, in his capacity as the
Managing Director of KFC and the School’s B.O.G Chairman. Standing with the KCPE class of 2014 in prayer on this auspicious occasion were members of the B.O.G, PTA, School staff, parents and pupils-The closely knit Fluorspar family!
The Managing Director, in his fatherly counsel wished the candidates well and encouraged them to face the exam positively and trust in God. He thanked the Guests for honoring the invitation.

Mr. Ndege’s speech left the candidates inspired and confident to face the all important examination in their lives. Emphasis was put on pupils embracing proper study skills, discipline, creativity, resilience, passion in academics not forgetting pursuing their goals. `Never, never, never give up,’ he quipped. He urged parents to avoid abdication of their duty in bringing up children.
With a lot of humour coupled with illustration, the Chaplain Mr. Muange, gave his sermon based on Isaiah 61: 7 and Proverbs 22: 6 emphasizing on obedience to instruction, putting into practice what we learn and embracing spiritual matters and being responsible teens. With all said and done and in one spirit, a prayer for victory for the candidates was made to Our Father on High lead by Mr. Muange.

Best wishes to our KCPE class of 2014!

To Bright Langat, a class 8 pupil in our school, the National ekitabu essay competition topic (Technology in My Education, A Dream or Reality) was done not out of sheer imagination but based on reality. Step in Fluorspar Primary school and be sure you are entering an e-learning Zone!

On 24th September, 2014, he was awarded a laptop, certificate and a school bag alongside other finalists during the 17th International Book Fair at Sarit Centre in Nairobi. Of the over 2700 entries from both Primary and Secondary schools, he was a runner-up in his category.

‘It was a dream come true for me to emerge victorious in the essay competition but to receive a laptop was a pleasant surprise, I love computers…’said an excited Bright.

E-learning is not a novel concept at Fluorspar School. We take pride in the six smart boards, wireless internet readily available for the learners and a fully equipped ICT Centre. The e-books recently loaded on the kobo e-readers in our library is a mile stone.

At Kenya Fluorspar, the sky is never the limit, so we believe! A new Version of Msingi Pack, 33 licenses to be precise, were acquired for learners from the ekitabu stand at the book fair to upgrade the current software.

At the function KFC was recognized as being one of the leaders in the development of e-learning facilities and reading material within Kenya.

The three top students, who achieved a mark of higher than 400 (80%), are listed below :

  1.  Otieno Collins Omondi 412 (82.4%)
  2.  Kamuren Kevin Kimutai 409 (81.8%)
  3.  Kiptanui Mark Kipkosgei 405 (81.0%)

The school achievements are as follows:

  •  No 4 out of 120 schools in the District;
  •  12 out of 26 students achieving an average of 70% or higher;
  •  10 students achieved a score of between 60% and 70%;

The benefit of the above results is that at least 22 out of 26 students from a poor or disadvantaged background will now be afforded an opportunity to receive access to a quality Secondary school allowing them to develop.

The above results are mainly due to hard work and dedication of the complement of teachers at the school coupled with facilities like a state of the art library presented by the Field-Marsham Foundation in 2012 as well as e-learning facilities.

In addition the Company ensures that the School is well equipped with learning aides, books etc and the providing of boarding facilities for the students from class 5 preparing them from an early stage for this milestone examination.

A function was held on 20 January to celebrate the achievements where awards were made to the top 3 students, most improved student as well as to reward the English teacher, Mrs Caroline Koskei, for achieving position 2 within the County.

In addition a well wisher donated a laptop computer which was awarded to the top student as reward for his overall excellence and consistent performance throughout the year.

The Company confirmed that it will provide full sponsorship to national schools for the top 6 pupils of the 2013 candidate class.

At present, the company sponsors 19 other secondary school students whose parents either work for the Company or are from the surrounding Community.

It was no mean achievement for the Fluorspar Primary School library to be ranked 3rd

nationally in the private schools category behind two renowned private schools, Makini and Aga Khan during the 2013 Maktaba Award Gala held on 26th September,2013. The school also received a cheque of Kshs 30,000 and a donation of assorted text books from Child International.

The news of the win was received with joy by both the Field Marsham Foundation and the Kenya Fluorspar Company Management as the facility came to be through their joint venture. The school family, the direct beneficiary of the facility, was not left behind in the celebrations either.

The Maktaba Award Ceremony was graced by Prof. Mugo Kibati, Director General of Kenya Vision 2030, The German Ambassador to Kenya, a representative of the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Arts among other dignitaries.

Fluorspar Primary School Library entered the Maktaba Award (Library of the Year Award) competition for the first time this year. There were 41 entries in the six categories which included private and public schools (secondary and primary), Universities and Community Libraries. Being a national competition Maktaba Award aims to recognize excellence in provision of library services in Kenya.

The Kenya Library Association (KLA) in partnership with The Goethe-Institut and Jomo Kenyatta Foundation (JKF) has been presenting this function for the past 3 years. The 2013 Maktaba Award was also supported by Radio Africa Group, E-Kitabu and Children International.

The participating libraries were assessed in the following areas;

  • Currency, diversity and relevance of the library collection.
  • Innovation and creativity in service provision.
  • Application of modern technology in service provision.
  • Efforts towards collection, preservation and dissemination of local content and indigenous knowledge.
  • Membership of the Kenya Library Association and participation in the Association activities.

With the grand opening of the State-of-the-Art library at Fluorspar Fluorspar Primary School on 3rd July, 2012 by Rita Field Marsham, the CEO of the Field Marsham Foundation, the Fluorspar fraternity realized a new dawn had arrived.

With enthusiasm and vigour the school entered a new era of wading through diverse learning material available in the modern facility with a touch of modern technology; wireless internet, computers, a smart board and e-readers. The ambience and comfortable and unique furniture in and outside the library is something to behold. Armed with the famous quote, ‘Knowledge is power’ by Sir Francis Bacon, we all were ready and determined to benefit immensely from the facility.

As the Fluorspar family we can attest to the above quote. Since the Library opened its doors our lives have truly changed. We therefore feel honored by the recognition at the 2013 Maktaba Awards.

Fluorspar primary school offers and maintains high quality education that enables learners to develop

the desire to learn and achieve high standards in all aspects of life.

I.C.T is one major area that has made our vision realizable. The introduction of e-learning in teaching and learning has made it even more interesting and contributed to improvement of education and development of skills.

EKitabu specializes in digitizing of reading books allowing school children to be able to read books electronically on devices and KFC has 50 Kobo readers which were donated in 2012 via the Canada Taekwondo initiative.

Lorna Kigen and Dennis Kipkoech (pictured), students from our school, participated in this year’s ekitabu essay competition whose theme was “How will technology improve my learning?”. They managed to attain a top ten position in the country and were awarded a certificate for their achievement.

Participating in the ekitabu essays assisted the learners in;

  • English composition and writing skills, such as writing a persuasive essay, using facts to support an argument, creative thinking and enforcing fundamentals of grammar, spelling and writing style.
  • I.C.T skills, such as using a computer usage accessing websites and typing. These skills are absolute necessary in the modern technology era.
  • Creativity and imaging the future.

KFC School will strive to continue its improvements to make available latest technologies in the education of our children for the benefit of the Communities.

The educational tours in our school are organized for classes 4-8 by a committee appointed by the school administration. The committee is comprised of all the class teachers and chaired by the social studies head of department and supervised by the school administration.

The social studies department will advise the committee on the syllabus coverage in social studies per class and that will make the basis of the place each class will be proposed to tour.

Std. 8 tour to Nairobi this year was the climax of the tours after std. 7 toured Eldoret, Kisumu and Kakamega regions, std. 6 toured Naivasha and Nakuru regions, std.5 toured Baringo region and std. 4 touring the company mines and the mill.

The std. 8 tour to Nairobi mainly focused on:

  1. Nairobi National museum where they leant about the art facts of Kenya wildlife, prominent personalities and different types of snakes.
  2. The National Assembly made them aware of parliamentary proceedings and standing orders.
  3. Nairobi National park improved children’s appreciation on the effort made by the Government in conserving and preserving wildlife.
  4. Wilsons Airport where the children learnt a lot about air transport, immigration and tourism as a foreign exchange to the country.
  5. Giraffe Centre enlightened their minds about the conservation of the endangered species of the wildlife in Kenya.
  6. The Paradise Lost made learning more practical when they entered inside the caves where the Mau-Mau fighters against the colonial rule hid themselves and they also had the opportunity to learn about coffee plantation and export.
  7. Mamba village exited the children so much when they were taught about the crocodiles.
  8. The Bomas of Kenya brought children to their roots when they visited the cultural cottages and later entertained by the Kenyan traditional dancers.
  • It was exiting when children made with Kenyan top comedian – ERIC OMONDI and exchanged views freely.
  • The tour apart from being educational benefited the children in acquainting themselves with the capital city of their country.
  • The tour turned learning to be very practical when they came face to face to what they learn in class.
