To mark World Environment Day 5th June, 2012, Kenya Fluorspar Company Ltd came together with Fluorspar primary Wild life club of Kenya to plant trees within the company leased area and extended the service to the neighboring schools. The company planted 2,500 trees with the main activities at the Cheberen dump site, Chemoibon and Menone primary schools.This is part of the target by the Company through the department of Environment to plant and grow 10,000 trees this year.

The company has suffered a huge amount of tree cover loss over years. As such, the management of Kenya Fluorspar has engaged in the tree planting activities in and around the company involving schools with plans underway to involve surrounding community, giving them an opportunity to participate in the rehabilitation of the ecosystem through replacement of trees destroyed as a result of mining operations and human activities.

By the end of October, the tree planting activities are set to be completed and the remaining months of 2012 would be dedicated for maintenance and identifying other sites for the year 2013.Besides from saving denuded forest areas, the company seeks to contribute to biodiversity conservation and climate change mitigation and adoption. Among the tree species planted on the world Environment day included; Senna siamea (Kitui), Gravillea robusta, Markhamia lutea, Eucalyptus sp, Spectaphilis sp and Terminalia brown.
