Kenya Fluorspar

On Wednesday 31 October 2012, Kenya Fluorspar Company opened and officially handed over a new Administration Office Block and a classroom that was sponsored and built by the Company. The Administration block consists of two offices for the Head Teacher and his deputy as well as a staff room. The one Classroom is part of the project that will enable one class to relocate from an iron sheet class into the new modern facility. The total cost of the project was $ 22 000. In addition the Company will provide furniture for the staff room and 2 offices.

The building was a result of a team effort between the parents, the Company and the community. The parents of the children in the School contributed by providing their labour free of charge to assist the skilled staff in completing the work and at the same time ensure that 1000 litres of water required daily was ferried by foot from a river approximately 1 km away.

During the opening ceremony which was overseen by the Managing Director of the Company, Mr. Nico Spangenberg, the Company also donated Kshs 40 000 worth of library books.

Earlier this year the Company also donated two classrooms to another remotely located school called Chemoibon Primary School.

These initiatives are all part of the Company’s CSR program in upgrading and making improved facilities available for the local communities.
